Since then the 11th unit has grown to a size comparable to the rest of the units and is no longer considered as just "the new unit" although it is still acknowledged as that too. So the Inyouroushi-Gumi created a few new units and she became captain of the 11th unit. However as it turns out they were expecting/planning to grow in the near future anyway and decided "why not". Akiko didn't actually expect them to accept those terms and mostly intended it just to make clear her loyalty to her allies who at this point are almost all quite loyal and competent themselves. This led to insecurities about her appearance and a desire to eventually meet her birth parents to see what kind of people they are. ![]() Most of the people were fine with her but considering it was a traditional, nationalistic, secretive organization, as well as it being a few decades ago some such discrimination was to be expected given her mixed ethnicity and her status as a bastard child. Growing up she was often bullied whenever she was alone by certain groups of the other kids also being raised to be part of the organization. Either way she was found as a baby by Retsu Unohana of the Inyouroushi-Gumi. The mother either couldn't or didnt want to raise a child at the time.
